MATISSE & PICASSO EXHIBITION
EXCLUSIVE TO THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF AUSTRALIA, CANBERRA
Matisse & Picasso from Friday 13 December 2019 to Monday 13 April 2020.
Matisse & Picasso is the story of friendship and rivalry between two of Europe’s greatest twentieth-century artists. Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso met in 1906 and followed each other’s artistic achievements for more than 50 years.
This exhibition brings together masterpieces from collections across the world, and includes paintings that will be on display in Australia for the first time. It also includes drawings, prints, illustrated books and costumes by Matisse and Picasso from the national collection. Together, they reveal how and why these two icons of modern art mined each other’s work in order to enhance their own.
