The works reveal the formative characteristics of Impressionism—depiction of light, purer colour and capturing the momentary view—by a new generation of artists who abandoned their studios for the world outside. 

     

Featuring Claude Monet's seminal painting Impression, Sunrise, the painting from which Impressionism takes its name and that changed the art word forever, in an exhibition that is exclusive to the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, this winter!  On from 7 June until 1 September.

This exclusive exhibition brings together works from the impressionist master and othe significant artists to examine the founding of an art movement - a defining moment in history. 

Visiting Australia for the first time from the Musee Marmottan Monet in Paris is Impression, Sunrise, along with paintings by artisits who inspired some of Monet's finest work such as Turner, Boudin, Sisley and Morisot.

Be enraptured this winter by artworks of waterlilies, seascapes, cities and country scenes.
