Canberra's Best Burgers

Brodburger

Arguably Canberra's best known burger joint, Canberrans first fell in love with Brodburger when it was all but a red caravan sat proudly in Bowen Park, allowing customers to enjoy their fresh flame grilled burgers with views of Lake Burley Griffin. Today, Brodburger have three locations. Head to Canberra Glassworks at Kingston for the authentic Brodburger experience, ANU Pop-Up Village to see the red caravan in action, or to enjoy fresh brews & burgers, head out to Capital Brewing Co in Fyshwick.

If you're like us and want the full monty, we recommend you opt for one of their newest addition, 'The Capital', with beef patty, onion, pickles, relish... and more. For a challenge, opt for the ultimate burger, the 'Deluxe', with double beef patties, double bacon, double eggs, and all the classics. If you're not a friend of meat, there are plenty of options, including the 'Battered Fin', 'Salmon' or the 'Veg'. All burgers have a choice of blue, brie, swiss or cheddar, and most come in a baby size (if that's your kind of thing... go hard or go home, we say!). Gluten free buns are available, too!

Oh and PSA, their onion rings are to die for. You can thank us later!

Grease Monkey

In a converted former garage on bustling Lonsdale Street, lays Grease Monkey, who claim to sell 'Burgers you'll go apesh*t over'. If you're a fan of a classic burger, go the Greasy, or for a burger with the lot, opt for the Full Service. If you're a vego, Nimbin with a crumbed portobello mushroom, or Wanda, with tempura battered hake will be your best bets. Special mention to the dirty bird, because we loveeee us a good Southern fried chicken burger.

It doesn't end at burgers. We HIGHLY recommend trying the Greasy Fried Chicken (we told you we liked chicken), available in serves of 3 or 6, complemented perfectly with a side of coleslaw or mash & gravy. All burgers come with a side of Greasy's chips, but we recommend taking a look at the 'snacks' offerings, too... from truffle mac and cheese, to truffle & parmesan chips and sweet potato wedges. Why stop at a burger and chips? If you're a dessert fan (who isn't) then there's three delectable options available for you, if you have room left over...

Mookie

Opening it's Genge Street doors in September last year, Mookie's burgers are one of the most instagrammed around town at the minute. From the classic Mookie burger with grass fed Angus beef, tomato, lettuce, onion, cheese & that to-die-for Mookie sauce, to the grilled or crispy chicken burgers, all the way to the Donald Watson, a vegan burger with a delectabe sweet potato, chickpea and tofu patty, there's bound to be something that tickles your fancy. Opt for a side of fries (or potato gems, or sweet potato fries), grab one of the six sauces on offer (hello, chilli mayo!) or go all out and choose from their seasoned fries options, including our fave, My Mexican Cousin, with cheese sauce, bacon, home-made guacamole and chives. *drool*

We know we're focusing on burgers here, but we can't ignore Mookie's 'concretes' that have been popping up on our news feed left, right and centre. Deliciously crazy looking frozen custard concoctions, with five options to choose from, including the Geisha, with vanilla frozen custard, cheesecake, pink rose petals, strawberries, watermelon and crushed pistachio. A combination we never knew we needed, until now.

Ducks Nuts Bar & Grill

Sat proudly on Woolley Street in the up and coming foodie precinct of Dickson, is Ducks Nuts Bar & Grill. And trust us, it's just that, it's the ducks nuts. Taking out the title of Best Burger at the 2017 AHA Awards, Ducks Nuts has four burger on offer, one of course, being a duck burger. With an asian inspriation, the Peking Ducks Nuts burger is seriously one not to be missed. With pulled duck, asian slaw, shallots and hoisin dressing, you can thank us later. Go classic and opt for the beef burger (with next-level crispy maple bacon) or mix it up a bit with their chicken parmigiana burger, juicy chicken with tomato, basil and mozzarella. If meat isn't your deal, go the grilled halloumi & mushroom burger, so good that even us meat eaters enjoy it. You can opt for a nude burger, too. That's all the inside yummys, without the bun.

Grab a side of onion rings with chipotle mayo, bbq corn with smoked butter and lime salt, or go classic and choose fries and you're SET. Plus, craft beers on tap. Burgers and beer? Name a more iconic duo.

Burger Hero

Located on Mort Street in Braddon, Burger Hero has quickly secured it's place as one of Canberra's best burger joints. One of their most popular burgers, is the Southern Smoke, with Hickory grilled beef, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, American cheese and chipotle sauce. Drool. We highly recommend the Mediterranean Lamb, Satay Chicken and the Spicy Hot Hellfire (for those that can handle a bit of heat). Vegans are not left out, with a sweet potato and couscous, lettuce, tomato, red onion, dairy free aioli and a dairy free bun, making up the Sweet Vegan burger.

Burger Hero also offer the option of creating your very own custom burger. First, choose your base. Pick from beef, chicken, lamb, haloumi or sweet potato and couscous, and then add to your hearts content! Choose your cheese, sauce (eight choices!) and salad and viola, you have your own creation! Plus, if a burger challenge is your kind of thing, try out the Burgerhero Challenge, not for the faint hearted. 800 grams of beef, layered with crispy bacon, American cheese, sliced dill and hero sauce.

Kokomos

One of the newest 'it' places in town, Kokomos have quickly gained themselves a name for serving up some next level food, with a trans-pacific feel. Ther are four burgers to choose from, but we can't go past the classic. The Surf Shack burger is everything you could possibly want from a burger. A perfectly soft bun, a juicy smashed Angus beef patty, crispy lettuce, tomato, cheese and big island sauce (kind of like Big Mac sauce, but 300 times better).

Be sure to opt for some of their shoestring fries, with thousand island aioli. SO moreish. Oh, and the best bit? Head in to Kokomo's from 6.30pm and 11.30pm on a Monday and grab a burger for $5. Yep. FIVE DOLLARS. And, if you're a fries fan (who isn't) purchase a burger between 11.30am and 3.00pm every Friday and recieve free fries!

Oscy's Burgers

Opening in their new location late last year, Oscy's Burgers have quickly climbed up in Canberra's best burger ranks! With ten burgers on offer, whether you're after something big (we mean big), like The Carnivore Burger, with four beef patties, four slices of cheese and two rashers of bacon, or something smaller, like The Junior Burger, a mini beef patty in a mini bun (so cute), Oscy's have you sorted. There's a salmon burger, lamb burger, grilled AND fried chicken burger, a veggie burger and a number of variations on the classic beef burger. Our favourite, the Charlie Brown Cheeseburger, offers flame grilled beef, American style cheese, onion, pickles and to top it off, Oscy's secret sauce, which has been in the family for generations. YUUUUUM.

Dessert fans, you've not been forgotten. How does a Nutella Burger sound? With vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and icing sugar, of COURSE we have room for dessert. Is that even a question?
